Peterborough City Council reports it has almost completed works (they have 2 days left before the next full Council Meeting) to ensure that "meetings of Full Council are accessible to all members of the community." The council hired what they term "a specialist auditor" to identify barriers that could prevent access to attend meetings in the Council Chamber at the Town Hall.
Council officers also took advice from those with disabilities and volunteers who trialled a new designated area for residents with access issues at December's Full Council Chamber meeting.
Before the meeting some officers and councillors received training in evacuation procedures for wheelchair users. A buddy system was also implemented and wheelchair users were introduced to the person who would assist them in the event of an evacuation.
Further enhancements have since been made following feedback after the trial - including the provision of tables to aid comfort during council meetings.
Diane Baker, PCC said: "We want to ensure that there are no barriers to anyone wanting to attend a council meeting and contributing to the democratic process."
The next meeting of Full Council takes place on Wednesday 6 March 2013 at 7pm.
Anyone wishing to access a Full Council meeting can contact the Mayor's Office by calling (01733) 747474 .

About time too! Glad to hear it.
Shame they cannot allow free voting little point in having a council meeting and a vote if the controlling Tory party carves it all up before the meeting and just votes as El Duche Cereste dictates. This is not a Southern Italian township///no really!
